A delegation of the U.K.’s Loughborough University visited the School of Journalism and Communication at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on April 21, 2025, to explore potential academic collaborations and deliver an academic lecture to students.
The delegation included Dr. Taeyoung Kim and Dr. Anna Zsubori, both scholars from Loughborough’s School of Communication and Media, along with Bai Lu, Deputy Director of Global Engagement at the university. The group was accompanied by Zheng Tiankang, Chairman of HOPE International Education.
The delegation was welcomed by Ma Sang, Deputy Director of SISU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, as well as SJC faculty members, including Associate Deans Yan Yining, Wu Xiujuan, Zhang Wenyuan, and Foreign Affairs Secretary Shen Chengyu. Their discussions centered on interdisciplinary cooperation, faculty and student exchange, and joint academic programs. Special focus was placed on exploring the feasibility of a potential “3+1” dual-degree program between the two universities.
Dr. Kim outlined Loughborough’s approach to teaching and curriculum design in communication and media studies. And Bai Lu highlighted the university’s interest in expanding collaboration across SISU’s academic departments to deepen teaching and research exchange. Chairman Zheng also affirmed the importance of internationalization in higher education and pledged support for joint development efforts.
The exchange laid a solid foundation for expanding joint academic programs and deepening cooperation in the field of journalism and communication studies.
Afterwards, Dr. Kim delivered a lecture titled “Netflix as a Double Sword in Korean Television” to SISU faculty and students. The session examined the global rise of Korean dramas on streaming platforms and the challenges for traditional broadcasters.
Dr. Kim also introduced the proposed joint degree program, expressing hope to welcome SISU students to Loughborough soon.
