The “Z Generation Global Journalists” account, launched by the School of Journalism and Communication at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), achieved a notable milestone in October by ranking fifth in the world category of the PAIKE Index on The Paper’s platform. This accomplishment highlights the account’s growing reach and the students’ dedication to high-quality journalism.

Introduced in October 2023, the account supports students in creating and sharing multimedia reports, allowing them to engage with real-world topics. Its recent success stems from the widely read article on the 2024 Paris Olympics, titled “Era’s Respite, Vivid Summer—Do We Still Need the Olympics?” This thought-provoking piece received over 460,000 views, solidifying the account’s position on the platform.

So far, the “Z Generation Global Journalists” account has published 13 articles, collectively attracting nearly 1.2 million views—an average of over 90,000 views per piece. The content is rooted in three major research projects supported by the school: the 2023 Paris-themed “Mutual Appreciation of Beauty” reports, the 2024 Guangxi National Conditions practical research reports, and the 2024 Paris Olympics-themed research. This integration of global and local perspectives gives the account a distinct edge.

Among the standout articles are “A Bowl of Chinese Noodles, Fragrance Filling Paris,” a 2023 Paris research piece with over 130,000 views, and the 2024 Guangxi article “Fresh Durian ‘On the Way’! China and Malaysia Preparing for New Opportunities,” which garnered over 80,000 views. These articles demonstrate the students’ ability to craft stories that resonate with diverse audiences.

The Paper, a prominent Shanghai-based digital news platform, is known for its in-depth reporting, investigative journalism, and multimedia storytelling. Its professional content creation platform, PAIKE, offers a space for contributors ranging from journalists to independent creators to publish quality work. By 2023, PAIKE had over 20,000 active users and was recognized as a leader among public accounts managed by traditional media.

The PAIKE Index Monthly Ranking evaluates creators across eight dimensions, including content quality, influence, and engagement. It selects five top accounts in each category, honoring 80 creators each month. This system encourages original creators to push boundaries and produce meaningful content.

SISU’s School of Journalism and Communication emphasizes hands-on learning and global awareness. Through platforms like “Z Generation Global Journalists,” it provides students with valuable opportunities to develop their skills. The account continues to produce impactful stories, reflecting the school’s commitment to practical education and media innovation.
