Gu Tianzhu

Gu Tianzhu has served as a faculty member at Shanghai International Studies University since his graduation here in 1999. Later, he obtained his master degree in 2005. His study interest is in computer-assisted language instruction. The courses he has instructed include English Listening and Speaking, English Reading, Integrated English Reading, An Introduction to British and American Cultures, Sports Reporting, etc.

Overseas experiences do facilitate his teaching service. From Summer Seminar Class at McMaster University in 2005 to PGDELT at NIE, NTU in 2007, and visiting scholar at PSU, US in 2017, he gradually comes to know that lanquage is a living thing and therefore it would better be acquired in real life way. And his teaching methodologies hinge on communication and immersion in language.

Sports Reporting is his second interest developed during his stay at PSU. This course provides course-takers with a hands-on opportunity of using various media tools to cover sport events and characters.

He agrees with Yeats upon Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
