School of JC launched the festival in order to create a brand activity for students with vivid specialty characteristics, as well as carry out the cultivation concept of educating students through practice. The festival had 6 major competitions, including News Writing, Photo Journalism, Public-service Advertisement, Short Video, New Media Software Programming and Interactive Media Design.

More than 20 experts in and outside the school were invited to work as judges and they received over 80 entries. The Youth Creativity Festival not only showed the professional learning achievements of students, but also motivated them to begin practising. Moreover, it promoted the development of the first classroom, the improvement of the second classroom and the run-through of the third classroom, and innovated the all-round education concept of School of JC.

Zhao Shuang, director of the Youth Creativity Festival, said that the activity had a difficult beginning. “Since this is the first time we held such an event, many students just hesitated in the initial stage,” Zhao said. Teachers’ encouragement played an important role in promoting the festival, and later more and more students were motivated to submit their works.

At the ceremony, teachers of School of JC announced the awards and presented the prizes, which covered both undergraduates and postgraduates and followed the interdisciplinary trend, showing the school’s education concept. Also, the entries covered a wide range of topics. Many were not restricted to the events on campus, but extended to a wider society, such as new media software like Global Multilingual Information Monitoring Platform and Global Public Opinion Case Database.

Xiao Hongyue, a junior student from School of JC, who won the Best News Video for her works focusing on the status quo of minority languages, said, “It’s really a surprise that we finally have our own activity. The festival is both a memorial of our works and a motivation which inspires our practice.” She hoped that the Youth Creativity Festival will be a brand activity of SISU in the future.

After the ceremony, 11 impressive works from news, documentary, creative and education videos were presented to the audience, demonstrating the winners’ outstanding concepts and brilliant techniques of shooting and editing videos.

Besides Excellence in Practice Awards, the Youth Creativity Festival also included several seminars and lectures like New Culture Salons, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Projects Display, Overseas Exchange Experience Sharing Session and so on.

According to Zhao, next year the festival will be promoted to the whole university by making some changes in the categories of the awards to meet the abilities of students from all majors.
