On April 11, Shanghai International Studies University received Iain Gillespie, pro-vice-chancellor of Research and Enterprise, and Paul van Gardingen, deputy pro-vice-chancellor of International and Development Research from the University of Leicester. Qian Ling, vice chair of the university council of SISU greeted the guests at the conference center on Hongkou Campus.
Qian emphasized that SISU always valued the strategic partnership with the University of Leicester, and the remarkable achievements that the two schools had made through frequent exchanges in recent years. Gillespie expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, pointing out that SISU was one of the most important strategic partners of the University of Leicester in China, he also shared his hope that the partnership with SISU could be deepened through comprehensive, multi-sectoral and high-level educational cooperation and academic research, and be contributive to the realization of both schools’ goal of becoming a first-class university in the world.
During the meeting, Zhang Hongling, director general of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Wang Xin, executive vice dean of the School of English Studies, Chu Lian, vice dean of the School of Journalism and Communication, and Li Yuxin, assistant to the dean of the School of Economics and Finance, all shared views on the internationalization of institutes of higher education and its meanings to the development of the academic fields in question. Consensus was achieved on several issues, from the construction of joint research centers to the organization of academic partnerships, conferences and joint training programs at all levels. The two parties agreed to work together to devise roadmaps for future collaborations.
