Professional MA Program
The MA programme of Journalism and Communication(MJC) at Shanghai International Studies University was established in 2017 and is a two-year programme.
It emphasizes the integration with the development of new media technology on the basis of adhering to Chinese national conditions and socialist core values, innovating cultivation mode and teaching methods, establishing a high-level international journalism and communication talent cultivation mechanism that adapts to China's strategy of cultural power, building a discourse system that integrates Chinese and foreign countries, innovating international communication theory and practice, and cultivating international, practice-oriented, thick foundation The university will develop talents with international, practice-oriented, and strong foundation characteristics. The cultivation of talents is in line with the development trend of globalisation and integrated media, and meets the demand for cultivating complex and applied high-end international journalism and communication talents who know foreign languages, are proficient in their specialties and are versed in theories in the new era.
The academic department and the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department have worked together to deepen cooperation with central media and district-level integrated media, establish international communication practice bases with national and Shanghai media such as Xinhua News Agency and China Daily, build the Shang Wai-Songjiang Global Communication Practice Base, create a practical platform for English-language integrated media in universities, and promote the industry-university-research model The university has also set up a platform for English-language integrated media practice in universities and promoted the industry-university-research model. In the whole process of student training, the discipline has introduced a combination of academic and industry mentors to enable students to rapidly improve their professional skills in a real-world environment.
The degree programme has four training areas: Global Media and International Reporting, International Corporate and Brand Communication, New Media and Digital Communication, and Multilingual Global News Communication. A series of courses combining theory and practice are offered in new media research and application, media entrepreneurship and practice, and production and production management. At the knowledge level, students are equipped with a more complete knowledge system and a broad vision; at the practical level, students are familiar with the cutting-edge changes in the industry. The programme also makes full use of its language advantage and adopts an all-English mode of teaching its core courses to ensure that students are able to use English to practice international journalism and communication, providing much-needed multilingual talents for China's international journalism and communication career.
