The Center for Global Public Opinion of China at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) has been included in the China Think Tank Comprehensive Evaluation Project (2025) AMI Think Tanks roster, recognizing its growing influence in research on global perceptions of China and international communication.
Established in 2008, the Center serves as a university-level research institute that integrates research, teaching, and practice. It has been designated as a Key Think Tank of Shanghai Municipality, a Category I University Think Tank, and a CTTI A-Class Think Tank (China Think Tank Index). Leveraging SISU’s strengths in multilingual and interdisciplinary studies, the Center conducts research on global public opinion related to China, multilingual narratives in international communication, and the development of a national case database for international communication.
In addition to its research endeavors, the Center collaborates closely with government departments, media organizations, and enterprises to promote the integration of academic research and practical application. It also engages SISU’s undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in projects that connect classroom learning with real-world communication practices, helping nurture talent for China’s international communication efforts.
The Center will continue to advance interdisciplinary cooperation and contribute research-based insights to support evidence-informed policymaking and the enhancement of China’s international communication capacity.
The recognition came during the 8th China Think Tank Construction and Evaluation Summit Forum, held recently in Beijing, where representatives from 29 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities gathered to discuss the development and evaluation of new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics. Two other SISU think tanks—the Middle East Studies Institute and the Shanghai Academy for Global Governance and Area Studies—were also named to the AMI Think Tanks roster. Notably, the Middle East Studies Institute’s Asia and Middle East International Forum was recognized as a “Reference Case for Ten Years of New-Type Think Tank Development with Chinese Characteristics.”
