
Han Ruixia is a Professor and Zhiyuan Distinguished Scholar at the School of Journalism and Communication, Shanghai International Studies University. She achieved her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology from Lanzhou University, and a Ph.D. in Communication through a joint program between Shanghai University and Duke University. She subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in Media Management at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Previously, she held faculty positions at the School of Media and Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the School of Philosophy and Sociology, Lanzhou University. Her primary research focuses on Global Communication and Media Sociology.
Han has led and completed several national and ministerial-level research projects, including General and Youth Projects of the National Social Science Fund of China, as well as General and Youth Projects of the Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Planning Program. She has also received Special Funding and First-Class Funding from the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation.
In terms of academic output, she has published over 50 articles as sole author, first author, or corresponding author in leading Chinese journals such as Journalism and Communication Research, Chinese Journal of Journalism & Communication, and Journalism Research, as well as in SSCI-indexed international journals including Journal of Asian Public Policy and Asian Perspective. She has authored and edited several books and textbooks, including The Divergence and Convergence of American Communication Research and Cultural Studies (2014), Fluid Identities: Chinese Perspectives of Foreign Youth through Education, Media, and Social Contact (2018), and Media Sociology (2024).
With extensive international academic experience, she has been a visiting scholar at Duke University (USA) and the University of Westminster (UK). She regularly serves as a reviewer for more than ten SSCI-indexed journals. Currently, she holds positions such as Council Member of the Internet Sociology Committee, Chinese Sociological Association, and Committee Member of the Communication and Media Sociology Section, Chinese Sociological Association.
