Recently, the results of several major research project selections were announced, with faculty members from the School of Journalism and Communication successfully receiving grants at municipal and national levels.

Professor Zhang Junfang has been awarded a grant under the Shanghai Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning “School Ideological and Political Education Research” Special Project for her study “The Impact of Cognitive Differentiation and Group Polarization on Ideological and Political Education in Universities in the Digital-Intelligent Environment.” The project focuses on how the deep integration of artificial intelligence into information dissemination reshapes students’ cognitive attitudes, contributing to opinion polarization. It aims to propose effective strategies for improving ideological and political education in universities, from content design and emotional engagement to algorithm governance.

Dr. Xia Qi received approval for his project “Collection, Collation, and Transformation of Marx and Engels’ Newspaper Originals” under the 2025 Shanghai Educational Science Research Project (Special Program for Philosophy and Social Sciences in Shanghai Universities). The study examines newspapers such as Rheinische Zeitung and Neue Rheinische Zeitung founded or edited by Marx and Engels, tracing the dynamic process through which Marxist views on journalism developed from press practice to theoretical construction.

At the national level, Dr. Liu Tong has been awarded a grant under the 2025 National Educational Science Planning Project for his research on “Embodied Cognition Tracking and Generative Feedback for Scientific Inquiry.” Drawing on the perspective of embodied cognition, the project leverages generative AI to track learners’ cognitive processes during scientific inquiry and provide personalized intelligent feedback, with the goal of optimizing technology-supported learning.
