SJC Faculty and Students Attend IAMCR 2025 in Singapore

A delegation from the School of Journalism and Communication at SISU attended the 2025 International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) annual conference, held at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from July 13 to 17.

Professor Guo Ke and PhD student Zhou Hui won the “Best Paper Award” from the IAMCR Islam and Media Working Group for their co-authored study on the social representation of Chinese high-tech brands on Arab social media.

Professor Chen Peiqin presented her comparative research on digital inequality among university students in the era of generative AI at the “Digital Education and Media Literacy” panel.

Dr. Yan Zhuxuan shared findings on the role of emotional factors in shaping pro-environmental behaviors within climate change narratives at the “Environmental Communication” forum.

Professor Guo Ke was also invited to join an international roundtable on academic publishing, discussing strategies to advance scholarly communication in times of turbulence and change.

PhD students Wu Yufei presented on gender and intimacy in Hong Kong romance films at the “Gender and Media” forum. Chen Yu shared her research on AI-related anxiety among Chinese college students at the “Media Communication, Public Opinion, and Society” panel.

The conference theme, “Communicating Environmental Justice: Many Voices, One Planet,” emphasized interdisciplinary dialogue and the importance of diverse perspectives in addressing ecological crises, social inequality, and sustainability challenges. It attracted more than 1,700 registered participants, with discussions spanning environmental communication, digital platform governance, artificial intelligence, and media transformation.

The IAMCR, founded in 1957 under the initiative of UNESCO, is one of the world’s four major academic organizations in media and communication studies.
