On the afternoon of June 9, 2025, a high-level delegation from the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at Suleyman Demirel University (SDU), Kazakhstan, paid a visit to the School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). The visiting group included Dean Madiyar Saudbayev, Vice Dean Aizada Nuriddenova, Professor Aizhan Kopbayeva, Head of the Department of Law, and Professor Aikerim Alimzhanova, Head of the Department of Social Sciences. They were warmly welcomed by Dean Wu Ying, Vice Deans Wu Xiujuan and Zhang Wenyuan, and International Affairs Secretary Shen Chengyu.

Dean Wu Ying greeted the delegation with a heartfelt welcome and offered a comprehensive introduction to the School’s development, international education strategy, and talent cultivation model. She highlighted the School’s strong global orientation and its longstanding commitment to academic exchange, especially with institutions from Belt and Road countries.

Dean Saudbayev, in turn, gave an overview of Suleyman Demirel University and its growing Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. Established in 2010, the faculty has rapidly evolved into a dynamic academic unit offering bilingual programs in English and Kazakh across disciplines such as multimedia, visual communication, and media studies. He expressed keen interest in developing a partnership with SISU under the Belt and Road Initiative and envisioned broad cooperation across multiple dimensions.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions around potential areas of collaboration, including student exchange, overseas internship programs, joint research, faculty visits, and academic journal contributions. A preliminary agreement was reached to begin working on cooperative initiatives.

Adding to the momentum, SISU has recently been selected as the newest Chinese member institution of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) University network and now serves as the lead university in the journalism and communication cluster. This designation opens up fresh opportunities for expanded international collaboration within the SCO framework.

The visit concluded on a positive and forward-looking note, with both parties expressing strong enthusiasm for future cooperation. With shared goals in fostering global journalism and communication talent, the two institutions are poised to deepen cultural exchange and academic partnership in support of the Belt and Road vision.
