Wu Ying, Dean of the school of Journalism and Communication, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor at Shanghai International Studies University. She serves as the Director of International Communication Research Center in Shanghai International Studies University. Her research areas include international communication, global public opinion, and intercultural communication. Wu has been recognized as a Shuguang Scholar and a Pujiang Talent in Shanghai. She has held visiting scholar positions at Northwestern University and the University of Maryland in the USA, and City University of Hong Kong.

Wu Ying is the principal investigator for a major project funded by the Ministry of Education in the field of philosophy and social sciences, titledResearch on the Path of International Communication for Chinese-Style Modernization. She has also led three projects funded by the National Social Science Fund, including a key project approved in 2020, Research on Public Opinion Guidance in Major Emergencies and Enhancing China's International Discourse Power,a general project approved in 2014,Analysis of Chinese Think Tanks' Influence on International Media and Strategy for Discourse Power,and a youth project approved in 2009, Strategy for Enhancing China's Discourse Power: An Empirical Analysis Based on Western Public Opinion on Foreign Ministry Spokespersons' Citations.Additionally, she has directed over 30 projects, including general projects from the Ministry of Education in humanities and social sciences, major projects from the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, projects from the Shanghai Social Science Fund, and Shanghai government decision-making consultancy projects.

Wu Ying has published four monographs: Research on the International Communication Power of China's Voice, Research on the Production Mechanism of China's Discourse Power, Confucius Institutes and the International Communication of Chinese Culture, and Cultural External Communication: Theory and Strategy. She has authored over 100 academic papers in Chinese and English, including more than 60 CSSCI-indexed articles. Her work has been featured in Guangming Daily, Global Times, Chinese Social Sciences Today, Jiefang Daily, and Wenhui Daily, and has also been cited by American think tanks.

Wu Ying has received more than 10 awards, including the Young Teacher Award from the Fok Ying Tung Education Foundation of the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, and three second prizes for Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences of Shanghai.

 

Wu teaches undergraduate, master's, and doctoral courses, including News Planning and Editing, News Practice, Media and International Issues, Media and Intercultural Communication, Research Methods in Journalism and Communication, and Public Diplomacy and Intercultural Communication.
