SISU Alumni Association holds networking event in Urumqi, Xinjiang

 
SISU Alumni Association in XinjiangMore than 50 SISU alumni in Xinjiang attended the networking event.


The Alumni Association of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) held the first networking event late August in Urumqi, Xinjiang. Zhou Cheng, the Vice-President of SISU, attended the ceremony in Xinjiang University.

Participants include predecessors who graduated from SISU more than 30 years ago, as well as a freshman who is going to be a SISUer in September.

During the ceremony, the alumni looked back on the wonderful learning time in SISU, narrated the profound friendships with faculty and students, introduced their working and living conditions after graduation, and expressed their yearning for SISU and gratitude for the holding of the activity.

They also hoped that more such activities could be held in the future. The experiences and feelings were shared in a warm and lively atmosphere when it stroke a chord with each other.

Zhou conveyed regards to the alumni from Dr. Jiang Feng, SISU’s Chair of the University Council, and Prof. Cao Deming, President of SISU, and introduced SISU’s latest progress in academic development, global initiatives and campus construction. According to Zhou, alumni is the direct embodiment of a university’s educational achievement and the important carrier of the inheritance of campus context.

“Xinjiang region stands in a significant position in the national strategy of developing the Silk Road economic belt. I believe that all of you have made great contributions to China’s development. So I hope that you can provide more support for the area studies that SISU is striving to develop. I also want to express my hope that SISU alumni in Xinjiang could share information, integrate resources, exchange needed goods and achieve joint development through SISU Alumni Association.” Zhou said.

Zhou hoped that the attending alumni could contribute ideas and exert efforts for the association and build a better one with everyone’s joint effort and more activities held, which was meant to let those SISU alumni in Xinjiang find a home. Meanwhile, Zhou also invited alumni to come back to SISU for a visit sincerely.

The success of the networking event also got full support of SISU alumni in Xinjiang. Professor Fu Hongjun, 1995 alumnus with a doctorate, Dean of Xinjiang University’s College of International Cultural Communication, and Professor Shan Xuemei, 1997 alumna with a doctorate, Dean of Xinjiang University’s College of Foreign Languages, attended the ceremony and provided the site and logistics support.
