Hassan II University Confucius Institute held activities to promote Chinese culture

The Hassan II University Confucius Institute, Morocco held series of activities during April, 2017 to promote cross-cultural communication. 

Chinese Culture Week

The second Chinese Culture Week, organized by Confucius Institute at Morocco’s Hassan Ⅱ University and the Chinese major of Ein Gawain college,  was successfully held between April 17 and 18, 2017.

This Chinese Culture Week  had a series of activities, including the exhibition of Chinese books and magazines, calligraphy, photos, mural and snacks.

On the opening ceremony, Shi Yuewen, Cultural Counselor of  Chinese Embassy  in Morocco, delivered a speech about “Culture Cooperation between Chinese and Morocco -- the History and Present”, reviewing cultural and educational exchanges since China and Morocco established diplomatic ties. During the opening remarks, he said that Morocco has already established three Confucius Institutes, and the amount of exchange students from both countries has reached 800 in all, this being far more than 100 in 2016.

On the closing ceremony, students of the Chinese major performed dragon and lion dances, Xinjiang dance and sang original songs “I Love Shanghai” with the guitar. Teachers of Confucius Institute also performed Taiji Gongfu, guzheng, modern dance and drum dance.

Yan Tingguo, Dean of the Confucius Institution at Morocco’s Hassan Ⅱ University, said that Confucius Institution would continue the close cooperation with Hassan Ⅱ University and other local schools to further promote the Chinese language and culture.

Morocco Chinese Bridgeprize

The final of 16th Chinese Bridge World University Chinese Competition Morocco Division was held in Rabat, the Moroccan capital on April 23, with a total of 17 players participated.

Chen Anyi, a student majored in the Chinese language of Hassan II University Confucius Institute, won grand prize and committed himself to become a Chinese teacher.

The competition had three parts: writing, speaking and Chinese talents. Chen Anyi's speech won the praise of judges and the audience. During the Chinese talent show, Chen Anyi showed his Chinese calligraphy, and sang the original song I Love Shanghai as well.

After four hours of competition, students from the Hassan II University Confucius Institute got a Grand Prize, a second prize and four third prizes.

African Cultural Festival

More than 300 people participated in African cultural festival, which was held by Hassan II University in Merl Hammer Dia, a small town in northern Casablanca on April 29, 2017

The participants included students and teachers from Hassan II University, Confucius College of Hassan II University, and performers from Mali and Italy.

The highly praised performances such as Kungfu Fan and drum dance not only gave the audience the opportunity to appreciate theatrical performances, but also show them the charm of Chinese culture. Teachers from Confucius College at Hassan II University played Guzheng combined with Chinese calligraphy, making the audience experience the profound Chinese calligraphy. The opening performances endedwith the panda dance with Chinese characteristics.

The African Cultural Festival has raised popularity and influence of the Confucius College at Hassan II University and more Moroccans have felt the charm of Chinese culture.
