Ye Mingyue, a senior student of Japanese Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), won the first prize and ranked second overall in the Third Cross-Strait University Japanese Speech Contest held in Changchun on Sep. 13.

Initiated in 2012, the contest was hold by Jilin University this time and supported by organizations such as the Advisory Board of Foreign Language Teaching under the Ministry of Education, China’s Japanese Language Education Association, and the Japan Foundation.

Among the 15 contestants, 9 are from universities in Mainland China, while 5 are from universities in Taiwan Province. Each contestant should make a speech on a given topic for 5 minutes, and then an impromptu speech for 3 minutes. The judges commented according to language correctness, content and stage manner.

Ye performed well in both speeches, especially the impromptu one. She made a pertinent and fluent speech calmly, receiving good reputation from the audience. She won the first prize with ranking second overall, which is the best prize SISU students have got in the contest.

Associate professor Xu Min and Japanese expert Rinkoh had helped Ye do targeted training and preparation for the contest. Professor Xu was also the leader of the delegation and attended the Japanese Teaching Seminar for Cross-Strait Universities after the contest.
