Poland's new Ambassador to China visits SISU to enhance educational ties

The newly-appointed Poland’s Ambassador to China Wojciech Zajączkowski visited Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on Mar.20, 2018 to further cooperation in exchange programs and academic research.

SISU President Li Yansong greeted the delegation and held talks at the International Education Center. During the meeting, Li reviewed the tradition and recent achievements of SISU, saying that SISU is committed to cultivating talents who are proficient in the Polish language , Polish history and culture , as well as national conditions and society of Poland, although the Polish major at SISU still begun at the primary level.

He added that SISU was cooperating with some Poland’s celebrated universities, such as University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University, Adam Mickiewicz University, to foster exchange programs of teachers and students and joint research.

Mr. Zajączkowski noted that SISU was the first university he visited during his first two months in office. He said he was full of hope to the overall development of SISU. For better bilateral relations, he was willing to support the newly-established program and related researches of Polish language in SISU. He also said that he was glad to give a lecture in SISU and was looking forward to an in-depth exchange of views with SISU faculty and students.

Besides, the delegates also took a visit to the Russian and Eurasian School and met with their faculty together with their Polish-majored students. Mr. Zajączkowski said he was happy to see that Chinese youth choose to study Polish Language and Literature. The conference ended with a song “Auld Lang Syne” sung in both Chinese and Polish.

Other meeting attendees included Tomasz Jurczyk, Assistant to the Ambassador; Monika Zapała, Cultural Attaché of Consulate; Pei Qiong, Assistant to Consul General in Shanghai; Professer Zhang Hongling, director of SISU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Professor Xu Hong, Dean of SISU’s School of Russian and Eurasian Studies; Mao Rui, lectuer of Polish major; and Tomasz Ewertowski, international expert in Polish studies.
