n associate director of China Radio International returned to his alma mater as a visiting professor at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and gave a series of lectures, Nov.23-27.

Ma Weigong was invited by SISU’s Office of Research Affairs, School of Communication and Journalism and School of Asian and African Studies.

Ma gave eight lectures for SISU teachers and students, ranging from international communication to the Middle East politics, from media convergence to global anti-terrorism.

Based on his Arabic studies experience and his career as a journalist, Ma discussed China’s difficulties in expressing itself to the world. He said that learning foreign languages and culture is the best way for China to spread its voice.

Guo Ke, dean of SISU’s School of Journalism and Communication presided over the hiring ceremony, and Yang Li, deputy chancellor of SISU, presented the appointment certificate.

Ma majored in Arabic at SISU before going to Kuwait University to study Arabic, literature and history. He was once an Arabic translator, announcer and journalist of China Radio International and has worked as associate editor since 2002.
