rofessor Xu Yixing of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) analyzed the problems and potential of the Portuguese language teaching at the fifth SIMELP, the international symposium of Portuguese language studies, held recently at the University of Salento, Italy.
More than 500 scholars and specialists, from China and Portuguese-speaking countries, attended.
Xu is the Vice Dean of SISU’s School of European and Latin American Studies and the director of the university’s Portuguese language teaching. In her seminar papers, she presented the difficulties of developing teaching materials for the Portuguese language and the Portuguese education in Shanghai.
SIMELP (Simpósio Mundial de Estudos de Língua Portuguesa) was held every two years, this being the first time involving a host country not using Portuguese as its official language since the event started in 2007.
