SISU international students climb floors on Double Ninth Festival

    SISU international students climb up to 100th floor on the traditional Chinese Double Ninth Festival.

 group of international students at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) celebrated Chinese Double Ninth Festival on the 100th floor of Shanghai World Financial Center on 23 October. All of them are scholarship holders of the Confucius Institute.

As a traditional custom of Double Ninth Festival, international students joined in the celebration climbing to the 100th floor of Shanghai World Financial Center in Lujiazui, Pudong District. The spectacular horizontal scenery took up all storage space of students’ cameras.

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower and other high buildings along the Huangpu River, Shanghai’s mother river, which acted as perfect background for students’ photos. Excitements lit everyone when they found places and buildings that they are familiar with in this modern city from a quite different angle. 

Double Ninth Festival is a traditional Chinese festival, beginning as early as the Warring States Period, about 475 to 221 BC. While the custom of ascending a high place to avoid epidemics was passed on from then. Thus, Double Ninth Festival is also referred to "Height Ascending Festival". 

Getting involved in traditional Chinese festival celebrations provides the international students with an impressive understanding of modern China. The students who participated in the activity spoke highly of this involvement.
