he Students’ Badminton Association of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) successfully concluded their annual badminton single open games this week. It is the third year they host the match. The match system was the best two out of three. And the first gets 21 scores wins. The match lasted for two days.
Finally, Gu Xinhao, a freshman in the College for International Cooperative Programs, won the men single champion and Song Luyi, a student from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, won the women single champion.
“I feel really tired but happy now. It’s tired after playing so many games. I’m pleased to get the champion. I learned a lot, met many strong rivals and had many friends during the game.” Gu Xinhao said.
The highlight in the match was the semi-final between Gu Xinhao and Ma Shuxing, a freshman from School of Education. Both of them are in high skills so the game caused lots of attention and lasted for a long time. They played all three games. And Gu defeated Ma in the deciding game in 28:26.
“I think Ma Shuxing’s skill is at a high level. He could have won me, but I could feel that he was very nervous during the match. I was calm in the game. So he wasn’t defeated by me, but by himself.” Gu said.
“The Badminton Association Open Games develops well this year,” said Zhang Jing, a gym coach in SISU. “They did well from the preparation to the organization, including arrangement of referees, rent the court, ranking and the prizes awarded. The university needs to provide some support.”
“More and more students love badminton. We hope there are some group competitions next year. In this way, not only can expand students’ horizon, but let them participate in the game.” She said.
