hanghai Orient Webcasting Co. (Eastday.com) and Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) signed strategic cooperation agreement this afternoon, and both sides will further cooperate in news communication, diverse project, talent cultivating as well as collaborative innovation.

SISU President Cao Deming, Eastday’s Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Board He Jiliang, Eastday’s President, Editor-in-chief Xu Shiping, Director of Press Relation Department, Information Office of Shanghai Municipality Yang Jing attended the signing ceremony.

Cao Deming said in the opening speech that today’s signing agreement means the start of future cooperation between Eastday and SISU. “Eastday owns branding influence and platform advantages as Shanghai most influential news website and local key news website confirmed by the State Council; while SISU, featuring also has multilingual, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural comprehensive advantages as one of the national key universities among ‘211 Project’.” Cao hopes detailed cooperation to be put into practice in the near future.

He Jiliang said that Eastday and SISU will have closer cooperation after signing to be strategic cooperative partners. He introduced that Eastday newly set up the International Center for Economic& Cultural Exchange last year, committed to expand international economic, trade and cultural exchanges through English and Japanese channels, sites in America and Canada as well as diverse economic and cultural projects. “Being a strategic cooperative partner with SISU can integrate existing resources advantages of both sides to carry out the “cultural going out” strategy as well as promote Chinese culture going abroad.”

According to the agreement, Eastday and SISU will, on the basis of current two foreign language channels, further explore the Arabic, Russian, French, Spanish channels, etc. in order to promote international communication. In addition, the two sides will jointly promote the international spread of Chinese culture, foreign students’ education in China, and overseas construction of the Confucius Institutes.

SISU sets up “Internship Center” at Eastday which will provide experienced reporters and editors to help provide practical training and internship for both SISU’s faculty and students. And Eastday sets up “International Communication Research and Development Center” to jointly develop vocational training, business knowledge and skills training, orientation degree training and joint school, etc. Eastday will also build a platform of the Chinese and foreign cooperation and communication for SISU’s faculty and students.

Besides, SISU invited Eastday Editor-in-Chief Xu Shiping as Adjunct Professor, and invited Deputy Editor-in-Chief Zhang Sang, Director of Media Business and Management Center Chen Xudong, Director of International Center for Economic& Cultural Exchange Zhang Qingling and other media professionals as Practice Advisors. While Eastday also invited SISU President Cao Deming as member of Eastday Committee of Experts, and invited Dean of SISU's School of Journalism and Communication Guo Ke, Director of SISU's Office of International Cooperation and Exchange Zhang Hongling, Dean of SISU's School of English Studies Zha Mingjian, Dean of SISU's School of Japanese Studies Xu Zihui and other experienced professors as International Communication Advisors.

One more important thing is that the two sides, according to the agreement, will make full use of new media to jointly develop Smart Campus. Global Media Integration Training Base of SISU will efficiently collaborate with Eastday to strengthen the research and development cooperation on audio, video, microblogging, WeChat, APP, digital publishing and other emerging fields. And Smart House developed by Eastday will also provide diverse online and offline services on campus for all the staffs and students in the future, and a Smart Campus will finally shows its appearance.
