Speaker Biography:Dr. Zha Mingjian is a professor of comparative literature and translation studies. He is the Dean of School of English Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and the director of SISU's Center for Comparative Literature at Institute of Literary Studies.

His pen name is Shi Yi or Wei Hang. He has studied at East China Normal University, Fudan University and Shanghai International Studies University respectively, and received his doctoral degree in translation studies at Lingnan University in Hong Kong. He was a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University, the United States.

His major research interests are the history of translated literature, theories of comparative literature and comparative cultural studies. His publications include A History of Translated Literature in Modern China (1898-1949) and A History of the 20th century Foreign Literary Translation in China.
